The Toppo of Castelgrande is 170 km far from Naples.
It is very difficult to reach the Toppo by train or bus, so we suggest you to use a car.
If you want contact us tt1@oacn.inaf.it in order to organize your trip. There are possibilities to have a lift from Naples or
Bella Muro.
By car:
- Take the Salerno-Reggio Calabria highway (A3) as far as the Sicignano exit.
Insert in the Basentana road until the Balvano exit. Here take the
Balvano-Baraggiano-Muro Lucano road until the Castelgrande town. Here, once passed the football
stadium, take the Serraduo-Picone-Macchia street that leads to the observatory.
This itinerary is good for winter time, because is continuosly cleaned from snow and ice.
- Take the Salerno-Reggio Calabria highway (A3) as far as the Contursi exit. Take the
freeway to Lioni until the Laviano exit and follow the Laviano-Castelgrande road
as far as the Castelgrande town. Here, once passed the football stadium, take the
Serraduo-Picone-Macchia street that leads to the observatory.
- Take the Napoli-Bari highway (A14) as far as Avellino Est exit. Take the freeway
Ofantina as far as S. Andrea di Conza town and take Pescopagano direction.
After passing the town of Pescopagano continue until the crossing of Monte
Carruozzo where, on the left, you enter in the G. Righini street that leads
to the Observatory.
This itinerary is good in summer period.
By train/bus:
