Abstract

The structure function of AGN and its possible dependencies on some physical properties of the central supermassive black holes have been widely investigated in the last decades, generally limited to rather bright samples of sources (r <= 21.5 mag). I will present the results of our analysis of the structure function of a sample of AGN selected in the VST-COSMOS area of 1 sq. deg. by means of different diagnostics. In the context of performance forecasting for the Vera C. Rubin Observatory, which will grant us access to much deeper limits than the ones currently surveyed, our dataset is particularly valuable as the depth of our VST visits is comparable to the depth of LSST single visits. Our structure function analysis investigates fainter magnitudes (r ~ 23.5 mag) than most literature to date. It also focuses on various subsamples of AGN, defined on the basis of the adopted selection method and partly overlapping, with the goal of exploring possible differences among AGN selected by means of different properties.
