Announcement
The INAF-Astronomical Observatory of Capodimonte announces a competition for the assignment of a € 1300 Award (DPR 430/2001, art. 6) to the best scientific article on research concerning bodies of the Solar System, published between 1st January 2024 and the application deadline, or accepted for publication by that date (as confirmed by the editor’s letter of acceptance). The article must be published in a Q1 or Q2 journal and authored by an early-career scientist listed as first author.
Candidates must be under 35 years of age at the time of the application and have a Master’s Degree (or an equivalent Degree from the former Italian university system) or a Bachelor’s Degree in Physics, Astronomy, Mathematics, Biology, Computer Science, or Engineering obtained at an Italian university.
The Ernesto Capocci Scientific Award is unique and indivisible. The awardee will be selected by a Commission composed of 3 scientists, nominated by the Director of the INAF–Astronomical Observatory of Capodimonte and based on recommendations from the Scientific Committee of the Award. The decisions of the Commission are unquestionable and subject to approval by the Scientific Committee of the Award. The Commission may also assign one or more special mention, with recipients receiving a certificate during the Award ceremony.
Candidates must submit the following:
- the application form (attachment 1);
- a copy of the article in pdf format;
- a single-page summary of the scientific work described in the article;
- curriculum vitae et studiorum;
- any other relevant document or certificate for the competition;
- a self-declaration (attachment 2), certifying the accuracy of the data provided in the documentation listed in items 1) and 4), along with a copy of a valid ID

The deadline for submission is 5 October 2025.
The winner Ernesto Capocci Scientific Award will be invited to present a seminar at the INAF-Astronomical Observatory of Capodimonte on the occasion of the Award ceremony.
If no suitable candidate is identified, the Award will be reopened for competition the following year.
